The 2024 Dodge Hornet is finally here, and with it comes the plug-in hybrid, R/T trim. Despite the 1.3-liter engine and the added fuel efficiency, the automaker is positioning it as a performance oriented model, thanks to its 288 hp (214 kW/292 PS) powertrain.
Whereas the Hornet GT (which was first introduced for 2023, and returns for the 2024 model year) offers a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that makes 268 hp (200 kW/272 PS), the R/T’s 1.3-liter engine is assisted by a 121 hp (90 kW/122 PS) electric motor that’s fueled by a 15.5 kWh lithium-ion battery.
That motor and battery can be called upon to give the Hornet R/T a 15-second burst of 30 hp (22 kW/30 PS) to shave as much as 1.5 seconds off the crossover’s 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) time. Together, they can propel it up to highway speeds in just 5.6 seconds.
Meanwhile, on battery power alone, the 2024 Hornet R/T can go up to 32 miles (51 km). In combination, the motor and engine offer drivers up to 360 miles (579 km) of range thanks to a fuel efficiency of 77 MPGe.

Apart from the powertrain, the Hornet R/T and GT will be nearly identical. Dodge says that it prefers not to “fence off” content, meaning that the Blacktop Package, the Track Pack, and the Tech Pack can be selected regardless of which model buyers opt for.
The Blacktop Package features 18-inch Abyss alloy wheels, gloss black badging and mirror caps, as well as black painted moldings. The Track Pack ups the same wheel design to 20-inches, adds dual-stage valve suspension, Alcantara seats, aluminum interior and pedals, as well as red brake calipers.
Finally, the Tech Pack offers features like Highway Assist, traffic sign recognition, intelligent speed assist, drowsy driver detection, parking sensors at the front, a 360-degree camera, as well as parking assistance.
In addition, buyers can go for the Hornet GT or R/T Plus model, which adds leather seats, eight-way power seats, ventilated front seats, a Harmon Kardon sound system, a sunroof, and a hands-free power liftgate. On the GT model, the package also adds wireless charging, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, remote start, and auto dimming.
For 2024, prices remain stable for the Hornet GT, which starts at $32,330, while the Hornet R/T starts at $42,530 (both prices including a $1,595 destination charge). The 2024 model will be available starting this summer, and shoppers can use the configurator to design their perfect crossover right now.
