Polestar is gearing up to launch the 5 next year, but we haven’t gotten a good look at the EV. That’s changing today as the automaker has used the Goodwood Festival of Speed to introduce their latest “verification prototype.”
Looking virtually production-ready, the Polestar 5 prototype follows in the footsteps of the Precept concept and features split lighting units as well as a lightly revised bumper with angular accents. Further below, we can see a small intake and a more pronounced splitter.
Bigger changes occur aft of the A-pillar as the prototype features larger and slightly more conventional door handles. They’re joined by traditional side mirrors, chunky side skirts, and a new charging port door.

The rear remains relatively faithful to the concept, although we can see a lightly revised liftgate and bumper. The latter now houses horizontal reflectors and a modified diffuser.
Polestar didn’t say much about the prototype, but the company has previously announced the “electric 4-door GT” will have a dual-motor all-wheel drive system that is targeted to produce 872 hp (650 kW / 884 PS) and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque. Polestar has also announced the 5 will have an 800V architecture as well as an advanced driver assistance system that uses Luminar LiDAR technology.
We can expect to learn more in the coming months, but the Polestar 5 will ride on a bonded aluminum chassis that promises to deliver dynamics as “desirable as the design.” The company has also hinted at the use of lightweight materials to ensure the model is a “truly stunning” driver’s car.
