The glorious Porsche Mission X concept is heading to the United States in September and will celebrate its local debut at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca during Rennsport Reunion 7.
This year’s Rennsport Reunion 7 will run from September 28 to October 1 and as with previous iterations, will include heaps of on-action from the finest classic and modern Porsche models. Three-time IMSA GT2 champion Patrick Long and Porsche Motorsport North America chief executive Alwin Springer will be the grand marshals of the event.
While the Porsche Mission X is a concept, it is expected to lead to the creation of a production model that will serve as the direct successor to the hybridized Porsche 918 Spyder. Curiously, Porsche hasn’t revealed all that many details about its powertrain, other than confirming that it is all-electric and that it is targeting a power-to-weight ratio of 1 hp per 2.2 lbs.

Porsche has also designed and developed the Mission X to produce significantly more downforce than the current 911 GT3 RS with its 1,895 lbs (860 kg) produced at 177 mph (285 km/h). It also wants to set a new production car lap record around the Nurburgring Nordschleife with the car.
Few would deny that the Mission X is a stunning vehicle to look at in photos and we imagine it’s even more gorgeous in person. Given that Porsche released concepts of both the Carrera GT and 918 Spyder that looked almost identical to the eventual production models, it’s safe to assume that the next hypercar from Porsche should look very similar to this concept.
However, the lack of an internal combustion engine is likely to disappoint some enthusiasts and collectors. Porsche has heavily promoted its investments into the use of synthetic fuels and given that it thinks it can keep building the 911 with an internal combustion thanks to this new fuel, it likely could have built one final ICE-powered hypercar.
