Ram’s hugely popular 1500 pickup truck family has grown in Australia with the launch of the new Laramie Sport variant. The new truck has arrived following what has been a record-breaking period for Ram Trucks Australia with it having sold 4,156 vehicles this year, a 61.6% increase over the same period last year.
Each Ram 1500 Laramie Sport heading to Australia comes equipped with color-coded bumpers, grille, and mirrors, and sits on a set of distinctive 20-inch alloy wheels. Ram has also equipped it with the RamBox cargo management system on both sides of the bed.
The cabin of the Laramie Sport is also a little different than other Ram 1500 models. For example, it sports a black headlining and black carbon fiber-effect dash inserts. Each example heading to the hands of local shoppers also comes standard with a 12-inch digital gauge cluster with 3D graphics, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-path detection, forward collision warning with active braking, and a 360-degree surround view camera. Other key safety features of the Laramie Sport include parallel/perpendicular park assist, LaneSense lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, front and rear park assist system, and a reversing camera.

Mechanically, the Laramie Sport remains the same as other 1500 models available Down Under. As such, it is powered by a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 delivering an impressive 291 kW (390 hp) and 556 Nm (410 lb-ft) of torque through an 8-speed automatic transmission. It also features a mild-hybrid system and can tow up to 4.5 tonnes. Shoppers will be able to order it in either Bright White, Diamond Black, or Granite Crystal but it’s not cheap, starting at AU$136,950 ($93,399).
“The 1500 Laramie Sport full-size pickup combines all the benefits of a ute with the comfort, space and premium finishes of a luxury SUV,” Ram Trucks Australia national manager Jeff Barber said. “This unique proposition allows a range of customers to travel business class whether they’re towing, on work sites, on family road trip adventures, or even doing the school run.”
