Mate Rimac’s two companies have been pitted against one another by one of their greatest customers. Two otherworldly vehicles, the Rimac Nevera and the Bugatti Chiron SuperSport, go toe to toe to see which is fastest.

On an un-prepped stretch of asphalt in the middle of an Ohio corn field, some of the most expensive cars ever to have been produced compete in a new video by The Triple F Collection. One of the most recent recipients of the Nevera, the owners decided to do what we’d all like to, and raced the cars.

In many ways a representation of the past and future of the automotive industry – one company centered in old-world mystique and history, the other an upstart exploring new powertrain technology – this race pits a 16-cylinder engine against the latest electric motors.

The Triple F Collection is owned by Dave Frecka, and his sons Jordan and Jason, who you see on camera here. Made up of more than 40 exotic vehicles, they keep a personal timing chart of their fastest vehicles.

They took delivery of their Nevera in June, and the car was handed over by Mate Rimac himself, whose namesake company was such a success that he was handed the reins to Bugatti as well.

The results of the race are, perhaps, predictable to anyone aware of just how fast the Nevera is in a straight line. With more experience in the Chiron SuperSport, which had already asserted itself over the Tesla Model S Plaid as the fastest car in their collection, there was some hope that it could take on the new-school EV.

However, even when the Nevera didn’t launch well, it possessed enough power to handily beat its W16 competition. In the end, its fastest quarter-mile time was a staggering 8.72 seconds, making it half a second faster than the Chiron Super Sport (9.39), and 0.8 seconds faster than the Tesla Model S Plaid (9.50).
