The story has been updated with additional sketches and information about the Matrix LED headlights

Skoda fans are eagerly waiting for the new generation of the Kodiaq and Superb flagships, but the Czech automaker is also working on a mid-lifecycle update for the Scala and Kamiq. Following the numerous spy shots of camouflaged prototypes since last year, Skoda published a set of official sketches, previewing the subtle styling changes of the facelifted siblings that will debut on August 1.

Both the Scala compact hatchback and the Kamiq B-SUV were originally introduced in 2019, based on a stretched version of the VW Group’s MQB A0 architecture. According to Skoda, the update will bring design and technology features “from higher vehicle classes”.

Starting with the Skoda Scala, the hatchback gets sharper and slimmer headlights with new headlight graphics, a slightly revised grille, and sportier bumper intakes. Other new features include the new design for the alloy wheels, the fresh lettering on the tailgate, new LED taillight graphics, and a diffuser integrating Skoda’s “crystalline” elements.

The Skoda Kamiq retains the split headlights which are now slimmer, flanking the slightly larger grille. The front and rear bumpers have also been redesigned featuring dark gray elements and silver-painted skid plates. Finally, the L-shaped taillights benefit from new LED graphics and are combined with the new reflectors. Both the Scala and the Kamiq have optional Matrix-LED technology for the headlights with hexagonal modules.

Skoda didn’t include sketches of the interior which will most likely be shared between the two mechanically-related models. We expect a larger infotainment touchscreen, a revised digital instrument cluster, and more generous equipment in terms of comfort and safety features.

As for the powertrains, the lineup is expected to be carried over from the pre-facelifted models, just like in the recently updated VW T-Cross. Current options include the turbo 1.0 TSI three-cylinder petrol producing 94 hp (70 kW / 95 PS) or 113 hp (85 kW / 115 PS), and the more potent turbo1.5 TSI four-cylinder producing 148 hp (110 kW / 150 PS). Power is transmitted to the front axle through a 5-speed manual, a 6-speed manual, or a 7-speed DSG automatic depending on the variant.

We will learn more about the facelifted Skoda Scala and Kamiq at their digital launch coming up in two weeks.
