You should never underestimate the ingenuity of thieves as criminals continue to find new ways to victimize people.
That includes at toll booths as Spain’s Mossos d’Esquadra is warning people about a sneaky attack that targets unsuspecting victims. While authorities didn’t go into many specifics, they released a video that shows a Porsche Cayenne pull up to a toll booth.
As the victim is distracted paying the toll, a thief exits a ‘follow vehicle’ and quickly punctures a tire on the Porsche. The clip doesn’t show the aftermath, but Nació Digital reports the scheme is designed to get people to pull over where the driver is then robbed.
Authorities didn’t say how common this practice is, but they also released footage of a similar attack targeting a Renault van. It isn’t just at toll booths either as another clip shows an attacker puncturing a tire in a parking lot.
While the latter is virtually impossible to defend against, authorities are reminding drivers to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings. It’s also worth mentioning that, if possible, drivers should try to find a safe place to pull over.
