The driver of a Lamborghini Aventador is lucky to have walked away from an accident in which they crashed into the back of an 18-wheeler on a highway in Georgia. Although the driver suffered minor injuries, the situation would have likely been much worse if they were in a taller vehicle.
Photos of the accident show the Aventador wedged under the rear section of the tractor-trailer. In the images, it is evident that the force of the collision has caused the car’s tires to pop and its floor to be pushed onto the ground. This impact likely helped to mitigate further injury to the driver.

The Georgia State Patrol identified the driver of the Aventador as Spencer Hyde, age 36, reports the Gordon Gazette. They further allege that while the accident took place at 12:32 p.m. on Saturday, July 22, they issued a BOLO for a Lamborghini traveling in the same direction on the same highway at 12:10 p.m., which had been clocked at more than 100 mph (161 km/h).
Meanwhile, as reported by Road&Track, police suspect that Hyde crashed into the trailer after losing control of the Lamborghini “at a high rate of speed.” The truck was traveling in the right lane of I-75 at the time of the impact, and resulted in both the rightmost and the middle lanes of the highway being shut down for nearly an hour and a half while crews cleaned up.

The aftermath images of the accident reveal extensive damage to the front end of the Aventador, with the front wheel seemingly detached from the car. Upon closer inspection under the trailer, it becomes evident that the roof has slightly caved in, and the hood has also sustained significant damage.
Fortunately, the driver’s door still appears to have been able to open, which is both a testament to Lamborghini’s safety team, and Hyde’s good luck. A little farther to the right, and the scissor door would have been stuck under the truck, too.
Fortunately, Hyde’s actions did not lead to any other injuries, but it’s a good reminder of just how quickly, and dramatically things can go wrong on the road—and also why you shouldn’t drive like an ass. It is not immediately clear if the accident will lead to any formal charges.
