The driver of a Tesla Model X P100D has been arrested near Stockholm, Sweden after leading police on a chase and crashing into multiple cars in the process.

The wild scenes occurred on April 28 this year but footage from the dashboard of the VW Touareg police car used in the chase has only just been shared online. The chase started when the police witnessed the grey Model X speed past them while they were waiting on the side of the highway.

It doesn’t take long for the police to catch up to the Tesla but the driver shows no interest in pulling over, even as the police flash their lights and blare their sirens. At one stage, the driver of the Tesla slows down to a snail’s pace before pinning the SUV’s throttle and accelerating off into the distance. The police cruiser is able to just keep the Tesla in sight by speeding down a bus lane on the highway, reaching up to 197 km/h (122 mph).

Before long, the driver of the Tesla made the dimwitted decision to attempt to exit the highway but in doing so, came across a small traffic jam at a red light. When the police pulled alongside him, he tried to lane split between two rows of traffic but ends up hitting multiple cars, causing terminal damage to the EV and forcing him to ditch it in the middle of a large intersection.

The driver can then be seen attempting to flee the scene on foot. A police officer on a motorcycle gave chase and his helmet camera captured the moment the driver ran into a dense forest in his attempt to evade.

Local police soon discovered and arrested the man. He was found to be under the influence of drugs at the time and had been driving despite his license previously being suspended for separate drug offenses.
