The McLaren Solus GT came out victorious at the recent Goodwood Festival of Speed during the timed Sunday Shootout, proving that it is much more than a showpiece inspired by McLaren’s Vision Gran Turismo concept.
Throughout the course of the weekend, an orange and black Solus GT was storming up the hillclimb and considered among the favorites to set the fastest time. On Sunday, it was piloted by Marvin Kirchöfer and completed the run in 45.345 seconds at an average of 149.1 mph (239.9 km/h). That time makes it the third fastest production car ever up the famed hillclimb and only trailing the McMurty Speirling with its record-breaking 39.08 time of last year and the Nio EP9 with its 44.32 run a few years ago.

A number of other impressive cars participated in the Sunday Shootout. Placing in 2nd was Travis Pastrana with his heavily-modified Subaru GL Family Huckster with a time of 46.37 seconds. That run placed Pastrana ahead of Michael Lyons in a McLaren-Cosworth M26 F1 car with a time of 46.89 seconds, Adam Smalley with a time of 47.40 seconds in a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, and Jake Hill with a time of 48.18 seconds in a modified Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R.
The McLaren Solus GT celebrated its public debut at Goodwood and is the craziest car the British firm has ever sold to customers. Found at the heart of it is a Judd-sourced 5.2-liter naturally-aspirated V10 that revs to over 10,000 rpm and pumps out in excess of 817 hp and 479 lb-ft (648 Nm) of torque. This engine is coupled to a seven-speed sequential transmission that allows it to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) in less than 2.5 seconds while powering through to a top speed exceeding 200 mph (322 km/h).
