The 8th generation of the Toyota Hilux has been around largely unchanged since 2015, but that doesn’t stop tuners from presenting new packages for the popular model. Toyota Motor Thailand brought several modified examples of the Hilux at the Bangkok Auto Salon 2023, showing what is possible for current and future owners of the midsize truck.
The small army of pickups was exhibited alongside a few other tuned models from the local lineup, but it is the extreme visual modifications in some of the Hiluxes that caught our attention. Let’s check them out one by one.
Toyota Hilux Revo 54th
The wildest-looking vehicle in the booth was the Hilux Revo 54th, due to the wide bodykit that looks like a movie car for the Transformers franchise. The angular front bumper has faux intakes, with integrated DRLs, shiny plastic red accents, and a prominent Toyota-branded add-on in front of the grille. There is more to discover including a decorative hood scoop, military-style fender extensions, larger mirrors resembling those of a full-size truck, a roof-mounted LED bar, and retractable steps.
More: Toyota Hilux Will Gain A Mild-Hybrid Diesel Option In 2024
The nearly unrecognizable Hilux rides on 20-inch Oasis alloys shod in AMP mud/terrain tires (285/55R20). The obviously raised suspension features Profender and Monotube shock absorbers, while there is a fair bit of underbody protection. As for the powertrain, the 2.4-liter diesel remains in stock condition. If you were wondering, the cost for the aforementioned upgrades starts from 350,930 baht ($9,958).
Toyota Hilux Revo High Performance & Style
The next version (red-painted vehicle) comes from a tuner called Arto and could be mistaken for a high-spec off-road-focused factory variant taking inspiration from the Ford Ranger Raptor. The Hilux Revo High Performance & Style is based on the Pre-Runner trim, combining extensive visual modifications with a beefier suspension featuring Profender springs, a new set of 20-inch alloy wheels by Lenso shod in grippy 305/55R20 Yokohama rubber, and upgraded ECU software for the 2.8-liter diesel powertrain.
The new face gets redesigned bumper intakes, a more prominent skid plate with visible recovery points, a rugged and slimmer grille, and a bulged bonnet with a central intake. The bodykit also includes wider front and rear fenders with faux inlets, a roof-mounted spoiler, a tailgate garnish similar to the Ford F-150 Raptor, and a metal rear bumper. The price for all those modifications starts from 456,100 baht ($12,942), plus the cost of the donor vehicle.
Here Come The Low-Riders
Besides the rugged-looking projects, Toyota also exhibited a trio of low-riders that were focused on making the Hilux look sportier. The most striking in terms of the exterior is the Hilux Revo Dragster, coming with a colorful livery, small-diameter wheels shod in drag-friendly tires, carbon-fiber components (splitter, tailgate, and mirror caps), racing seats, and a roll cage.
On the contrary, the matte-gray Revo Twin Turbo has a more subtle approach with five-spoke alloy wheels, a lowered stance, and sponsor stickers, likely focusing on mechanical upgrades. Finally, the white Revo Z-Runner looks like the stock model with different wheels and side steps.
The Bangkok Auto Salon 2023 was held in the capital of Thailand between June 28th and July 2nd. If you are wondering when we’re going to see the next generation of the Hilux, this is not expected before 2025 as the current model has been confirmed to live on for 2024 with the addition of a mild-hybrid diesel powertrain in certain markets.
