Drunk drivers are a scourge across the globe but according to police in Stafford County, Virginia, two took each other off of the road on July 13th. Authorities say that the pair of Honda Civic drivers hit one another head-on before both ended up in jail.
According to the NHTSA, roughly 37 people die every single day in the United States as a result of a drunk driving accident. That’s one person every 39 minutes. That intense danger is the reason that some organizations are calling for the implementation of drunk driving countermeasures in production cars.
Certainly, a device like a blood alcohol content meter or a breathalyzer could’ve helped either of the drivers in this story to make a better decision. Each was driving the same generation of Honda Civic, one in silver and one in blue.

Sheriff David Decatur posted on the department’s Facebook page to provide details on the accident. It happened late on the evening of July 13th and included an 18-year-old driver behind the wheel of the silver Honda and a 59-year-old driver in the blue Honda. Police believe that the younger driver crossed the centerline on the 1800 block of Mountain View Road and hit the older driver.
The silver Civic ended up with a badly damaged wheel, a completely flat tire, and a lot of front-end damage. The blue Civic featured similar albeit slightly less damage. When Deputy R.T. Phillippsen arrived on the scene, he found both drivers to be under the influence.
The younger driver was driving on a suspended license and with a controlled substance in the car. He was held on a $3,500 bond. The older driver did a field sobriety test and was then arrested for her second DUI offense in the last 5-10 years. She was held on a $2,500 bond. Authorities say that neither sustained serious injuries.
