Renting a car in today’s day and age is, for the most part, easier than ever before. What isn’t always so satisfying is the car itself. Today, we want to know what the worst car you ever rented was.
This might sound like a simple prompt but there are numerous layers to the experience that we should take note of. We specifically want to know about the car itself. Sure, it’s a huge letdown if the rental agency itself provides poor service or falsely claims that you stole the car before having it towed. But that’s not the car’s fault.
What we’re talking about are the times when you rented a car and it simply turned out to be one big fat fail of a vehicle. Perhaps you rented online and chose a situation where you could end up with any one of a few vehicles within the same segment. When the time came to find out what it was, you knew immediately that the car in question was going to be disappointing.

What’s likely worse though is when you have some sort of high hopes for the vehicle and only then does it let you down. That was the situation my wife found herself in when she recently rented a Fiat 500 on Turo. Quite the lover of all cars small but mighty, she picked up the little Italian hatch on a short two-day trip in Utah.
What she didn’t know was that instead of the peppy little people mover she hoped it would be, it was a gutless wonder that struggled at elevation. Under the hood of her Fiat 500 Pop was a 135 hp four-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission with front-wheel drive. It was such a problem that she intentionally sought out ways to avoid driving up hills.
That’s just one example though and we’re confident that you’ll have many more. Let us know in the comments below what your most disappointing rental car experience has been. Be sure to vote for your favorites too as we may do a follow-up post in the future.
