Ford has made some minor alterations to the popular Maverick pickup truck for the 2024 model year and it’s good news for those who want to use it for towing.
The most significant change to the 2024 Maverick is on the engine front. For the 2022 and 2023 model years, the truck’s 2.5-liter hybrid with 191 hp was the standard engine while a 250 hp 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder was an option. For 2024, this is switched, meaning the EcoBoost now comes standard while the hybrid is a $1,500 option.

This will suit prospective customers who are looking to tow. All Ford Maverick models with the 2.5-liter hybrid powertrain are capped at 2,000 lbs (907 kg) of towing capacity. Most variants with the EcoBoost engine are also capped at this figure but the rated towing capacity doubles to 4,000 lbs (1,814 lbs) when equipped with the $745 Tow package and the $2,200 all-wheel drive system, Car and Driver reports.
With prices for an EcoBoost-equipped Maverick now starting at $24,995, that means buyers will need to spend a minimum of $27,690 to get one that tows 4,000 lbs. The Tow package is well priced at $745 given that it brings with it lower axle gear ratios, a transmission oil cooler, a higher-capacity radiator, and an upgraded cooling fan. Ford does not offer the Tow package on the Tremor, meaning it is only available with the XL, XLT, and Lariat variants.
While a peak towing figure of 4,000 lbs is solid for a pickup truck of this size, both the Hyundai Santa Cruz and Honda Ridgeline can tow up to 5,000 lbs (2,267 lbs). Should this be a deciding factor for those tossing up between the trio? Probably not but there will certainly be some buyers who need that extra 1,000 lbs.
