Mercedes is heading to Monterey Car Week with an incredible lineup of metal that underlines its impact on the car industry for well over a century. The star of the show is the new AMG GT, but it’ll be ably supported by a fleet of classics reminding us of Merc’s long history, and also concepts like the Vision One‑Eleven that hint at where it might be heading next.

Mercedes confirmed that the 2024 AMG GT will make its debut at Monterey, choosing to tease the Porsche 911 rival by issuing an image of their new sportscar covered under a foil sheet looking like it’s been dropped on Mars. Though the covering makes it difficult to see the finer details, we can still make out the plunging nose and long hood, two features it shares with its SL roadster brother.

We’ve already seen multiple spy shots of the GT anyway, so we have a solid idea of what to expect, but one interesting talking point arising from this teaser image is what’s going on at the back end. There’s clearly a spoiler mounted on the trunk, a feature seen on a few, but not most of the prototypes we’ve scooped over the past couple of years.

Could that mean AMG is choosing to show off the car in an extra-speedy form? We already know that it will be available with the same 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8s as the SL, and probably in the same 469 hp (476 PS) and 577 hp (585 PS) configurations. But Autocar reported that AMG is working on a plug-in hybrid version that uses the same electrically-assisted V8 seen in the four-door GT 63 S E-Performance and will endow the coupe with a 911 Turbo-beating 831 hp (840 PS) and 1,084 lb-ft (1,470 Nm).

Also making its debut at Monterey is a limited edition SL roadster created to drum up business for Mercedes’ Manufaktur personalization program, while other displays sure to grab the attention of the Monterey crowds include two supercharged models from the classic W 06 series line, the crazy Project Mondo art piece, and the Vision One‑Eleven. The One-Eleven is inspired by the company’s classic C111 prototypes but features a state-of-the-art axial flux motor that Mercedes says is both lighter and more compact than current motors.
