Police say that early on Tuesday, August 8th, a man smashed into a pair of businesses in Louisiana. After causing thousands of dollars of damage, the driver sped away before cops caught up with him. As of this writing, authorities believe the man was experiencing a medical issue and he isn’t facing charges for the time being.
That building, a strip mall, sits at 371 West Esplanade Ave and houses a number of shops including Babin Physical Therapy. The unnamed man at the heart of this story was reportedly showing up for an appointment at Babin before his first accident. That involved smashing into a brick pillar and the front portion of the therapy suite.
He managed to free the vehicle of those obstacles only to accidentally jump the curb again, this time in reverse, before barreling into an optometrist. The Nissan is moving so fast that it flies straight through the wall and disappears into the building altogether. Seconds later we see it rushing away from the building, barely missing a few cars in the parking lot, and disappearing around a corner.

Police were already on the scene and evidently found the man not long after he left the businesses. According to Kenner Police, upon contacting the man, they found him to be “disoriented, unable to answer basic questions, and believed to be suffering from an unknown medical condition.”Shockingly, nobody was hurt in the string of accidents.
Authorities said they were still investigating the situation and according to WDSU the man isn’t currently facing charges or any citations. Police haven’t made his information public. It’s worth noting that in Louisiana, drivers who are 70 or over must renew their license in person every six years.
That in-person renewal requires a vision test that drivers can either take at the DMV or at their preferred optometrist or ophthalmologist. The DMV can require a written test, a road test, or both if there are indications of impairment. Hopefully, this gentleman gets whatever help he needs.
