Ares Modena (the design house formerly known as Ares Design) has showcased an intriguing open-topped Land Rover Defender and while details about it are thin on the ground, it is certainly quite striking.

The creation, known simply as the Ares Defender Cabrio, is bathed in matte black and looks to have received various new body panels. As with the Defender hardtop from Ares which we drove five years ago, the front end has been updated with a new blacked-out grille and revised headlights. There also looks to be a steel bumper and it’s hard not to notice just how short the front overhang of the Defender Cabrio is, no doubt helping it climb and descend steep hills.

Elsewhere, Ares Modena has equipped the Defender Cabrio with a set of aftermarket wheels finished in black and wrapped in Cooper STT Pro tires. It has then crafted a bespoke canvas roof for the 4×4 that we suspect can be easily removed whenever you want a true, open-top driving experience. A spare wheel also sits on the hood of the 4×4.

Ares Modena’s Land Rover Defender Cabrio Is The Ultimate Off-Road Cruiser

Only a couple of photos shared on Instagram by Ares Modena show the interior of the Defender Cabrio. We can see that the three rows of seats are clad in a lovely shade of Military Green leather that adds to the rugged appeal of it while also adding a nice splash of luxury.

It is unclear what engine is powering the Land Rover Defender Cabrio. What we do know is that Ares offers two V8 options for its Defender hardtop. The first is a 4.7-liter naturally-aspirated Land Rover V8 with 282 hp and 325 lb-ft (440 Nm) while the second is a supercharged version of this engine with 475 hp and 479 lb-ft (650 Nm). A six-speed Tiptronic transmission comes standard as does a Milltek sports exhaust system.
