The Omoda 5 is heading to British shores with sales set to commence in February next year. While local pricing details have not been announced, the Omoda 5 is sold by Chery in overseas markets like Australia as a small SUV that starts at just AU$29,900, or the equivalent of £15,198.
Underpinning the Omoda 5 is Chery’s Modern T1X platform and while in some markets it is offered with two engine options, British buyers will only be offered the flagship 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. This engine produces 197 hp and 214 lb-ft (290 Nm) of torque that drives the front wheels through a CVT. For those who’d rather not buy a new SUV with an internal combustion engine, the Omoda 5 will also be sold as an EV from launch, although details about its powertrain have not been announced.
The Omoda 5 has already been given a 5-star Euro NCAP safety rating and comes outfitted with a suite of advanced driver assistance systems like adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, lane-keeping assist, and hi-lo beam assist.
While we can’t speak to how those in the UK will take to the Omoda 5, we can say that it has become quite a common site in Australia since launching earlier this year. It has an especially sleek exterior design that makes it stand out on the road and represents good value. It competes with the likes of the Hyundai Kona, Toyota C-HR, and Kia Seltos.

The interior is a highlight of the 5. It rocks a flat-bottom steering wheel as standard as well as a large digital instrument cluster and an expansive infotainment screen. It also features a Tesla Model 3/Y-inspired wireless phone charging pad and even includes ambient lighting.
“The automotive industry has entered an unprecedented era of intelligent and new energy technology products,” Omoda chief executive Chen Chunqing said recently. “Marked by a surge in demand for personalization and individual expression, we’ve seen the ascent of the SUV segment which now dominates the ten best-selling models globally. OMODA aims to stand at the forefront of this transformation. With a projected global sales target of 1.4 million units by 2030, we’re marking OMODA out as a leader in personalized intelligent vehicles worldwide whilst creating a community platform for owners to share their experiences.”
