China’s BMW X5 Li may have been launched in March 2022, but the automaker already showed its facelifted version at the Chengdu Motor Show in China. Predictably, the long-wheelbase X5 adopts the redesigned face and upgraded interior from the recently facelifted X5, while retaining its stretched body and a few market-specific features. The X5 Li also got electrified, but only just, as both of its powertrain options now come standard with mild hybrid tech.
Measuring 5,060 mm (199.2 inches) long, the BMW X5 Li has a wheelbase of 3,105 mm (122.2 inches) which is 130 (5.1 inches) longer than the regular X5, matching the X7 and XM flagships. Visually, it gets sharper LED headlights, slimmer intakes, and X-shaped taillight graphics, with the M Package included as standard. Personalization options include the 22-inch M light alloy wheels, the Star Sky panoramic sunroof, and plenty of color options from the BMW Individual catalog.

Inside, the highlight of the update is the new iDrive 8.5 infotainment system in the larger 14.9-inch touchscreen display, housed in the same curved panel with the 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The rear passengers benefit from a generous amount of legroom and easier access thanks to the longer rear doors. Other amenities include the Harman Kardon audio, plenty of USB-C ports, wireless charging, high-quality materials for the upholstery, wood trim, and bright-crystal accents.
BMW is offering two powertrain choices, both upgraded with mild-hybrid tech. The xDrive30Li comes fitted with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder producing 255 hp (190 kW / 258 PS) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque, which is surprisingly lower than the previous non-electrified generation. However, the xDrive40Li gets a more potent turbo 3.0-liter six-cylinder producing 375 hp (280 kW / 381 PS) and 520 Nm (384 lb-ft) of torque, which represents an increase of 46 hp (35 kW / 48 PS) and 70 Nm (52 lb-ft) compared to the outgoing model. As hinted at by the xDrive moniker, both X5 Li trims come standard with all-wheel drive, as well as the usual 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission. The xDrive40Li gets an optional adaptive dual-axle air suspension for ultimate comfort.
As with their predecessor, the BMW X5 Li will be produced at the Dadong plant in Shenyang, China by the BMW Brilliance joint venture. The market launch of the model which will remain a China-only affair is scheduled for September. Pricing for the four-cylinder xDrive30Li starts from ¥615,000 ($84,380), while the six-cylinder xDrive40Li starts from ¥729,000 ($100,029).
