Tesla CEO Elon Musk just teased a release candidate version of the Cybertruck on X (formerly known as Twitter). The high-resolution photo gives us one of the best looks at the all-electric pickup to date. It also comes at a time when Tesla owners noticed that tickets to the delivery event are now available despite no hard date for the occasion.
Despite missed deadlines all over the place, Tesla and its CEO Elon Musk have both continued to say that the Cybertruck will begin production this year. In fact, it’s supposed to start before the end of the third quarter. In recent weeks and months, we’ve seen evidence that production is indeed inching closer to reality. Now, Musk is showing off a production candidate on X.
In the high-resolution photograph, we can see Musk sitting in the driver’s seat. Many tiny details are visible too. For the most part, the panel gaps look good. The fit and finish of the doors and body lines look uniform and without issue. There are a few tiny question marks though. The front bumper area might be askew from the front fender and the wheel cover isn’t lined up with the Goodyear tire behind it.

Beyond those gripes, this pickup looks as close to production-ready as we’ve ever seen it. That’s good too because Tesla owners recently realized that they can get tickets to the delivery event. Announced by numerous owners on X, the automaker is allowing Tesla account holders to exchange 30,000 referral points for two tickets to the Cybertruck delivery event in Austin, Texas.
What’s somewhat strange is that Tesla doesn’t provide a date for the event anywhere on the page. It’s also worth noting that 30,000 points is the most expensive award available as of this writing. That’s equivalent to three vehicle referrals or about $1,500, says InsideEVs.
We expect confirmation of a date in late September any time now and we’ve also reached out to Tesla. We’ll update this story if we hear back from them.
