It’s easy for someone who’s never previously owned an electric vehicle to have a bad experience with one. Perhaps they don’t know how to get the most out of them or they’re completely ill-equipped to charge the vehicle properly. When one owns an EV they likely have a totally nuanced viewpoint of the technology so we’re asking you. What’s the worst experience you’ve had with an electric car?

Perhaps it has something to do with an obvious defect or flaw in the manufacturing process. Stories have swirled about ill-fitting body panels, steering wheels that pop off randomly, or even cars that show up with missing brake pads. Any or all of those situations could have an owner rethinking their decision to buy an EV but none are specifically limited to electric vehicle ownership.

We imagine that almost all EV owners that have experienced really bad things are going to cite the charging experience. It’s no secret that charging infrastructure across the nation pales in comparison to that in place for internal combustion cars. What makes matters worse though is the way that infrastructure is reported on.

EV Owners, What’s Your Worst Experience With Electric Cars?

We don’t mean the way that the media talks about it either. The way that apps and the internet describes certain charging stations can be a major problem. For example, we’ve heard stories of cars that automatically route drivers to a charging station only for that charging station to be closed or broken, effectively stranding the person who is now far from within range of another charger.

What is only slightly less frustrating is when that lone charger is one that charges at such a slow rate that it might as well be broken. Nobody wants to sit while their car charges for an hour, much less four or more. It’s easier to find just such a public charging station than you might think.

Maybe though the worst possible issue is a dead battery that’s out of warranty. We’ve heard numerous horror stories of one person buying an EV in hopes of reduced maintenance and ownership costs only to find out that a necessary replacement battery is wildly expensive.
