Hyundai keeps expanding its range to cover specific customer needs in Asian markets. The latest example is the Hyundai Stargazer X, a new variant of the three-row minivan with crossover-inspired looks as a competitor to the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross.
The Stargazer X was unveiled at the 2023 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS), a year after the debut of the standard model. It retains the single-box proportions and Staria-inspired full-width LEDs of the latter but adds a few adventurous bits taken from the world of crossovers and SUVs.

Changes at the front include the sculpted bonnet, the expansive grille with a chrome pattern, and the black trim around the split headlights which also got darker bezels. The profile is characterized by the generous plastic cladding around the boxy wheel arches and across the side skirts, alongside a set of bi-tone 17-inch wheels and the addition of roof rails. At the back, there is a spoiler extension and a redesigned bumper featuring a prominent skid plate surrounded by more unpainted plastic.
The SUV-inspired redesign made the Stargazer X grow slightly in every dimension, measuring 4,495 mm (177 inches) long, 1,815 mm (71.5 inches) wide, and 1,710 mm (67.3 inches) tall. The generous ground clearance of 200 mm (7.9 inches) is increased by 15 mm (0.6 inches) compared to the standard variant. The extra space between the floor and the ground and the protective cladding are the only elements with a positive effect on the off-road credentials as the Stargazer X remains an FWD-only affair.
Predictably, there are no mechanical changes compared to the standard Stargazer. This means that the crossover variant retains the non-electrified naturally-aspirated 1.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 113 hp (85 kW / 115 PS) and 144 Nm (106.2 lb-ft) of torque. The mill is mated to either a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic, sending power to the front wheels.
Inside, the three-row cabin is available in 6-seater or 7-seater configurations, depending on whether you’ll choose the captain seats on the second row. Amenities include an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, a 4.2-inch screen in the instrument cluster, ambient lighting, a Bose audio system, a few ADAS, and faux leather upholstery with red stitching. In terms of family-friendly practicality, there is a hidden tray in the dashboard, illuminated cup holders, plus pockets and foldable tables on the seatbacks. The boot holds 200 lt (7.1 cubic feet) of cargo with all seats in place, but its capacity grows to 585 lt (20.7 cubic feet) when the third row is folded.
The Hyundai Stargazer X is already available in Indonesia with prices starting from Rp. 338,600,000 ($22,160). The regular Stargazer starts from as low as Rp. 259,600,000 ($16,990) as it is available in more budget-friendly trims with reduced equipment compared to its crossover sibling.
