The Porsche 911 is the most popular base for a restomod these days but UK firm Fifteen Eleven Design chose what is widely considered to be Stuttgart’s underdog for their latest project. The team transformed the mid-engined Porsche 914 from 1969 into a desirable sportscar thanks to the carbon fiber body, the Cayman S engine transplant, and the significantly revised chassis setup.

The Porsche 914 restomod project was originally announced in 2021 and is now finally ready for production. The exterior stays true to the original although the body is now made of carbon fiber with wider fenders to cover the 18-inch Fuchs wheel shod in Michelin Pilot Sport 2 rubber. The 914 also got a redesigned bumper with larger intakes, LED projector headlights replacing the pop-up units, a vented bonnet, and a ducktail spoiler integrated at the rear deck.

The interior is upgraded with bespoke leather upholstery, sports seats by Recaro, a wooden gear knob, and a redesigned bulkhead that increases the available legroom. Of course, each 914 Restomod can be personalized with bespoke color and trim features.

More important changes lie under the skin as power comes from a modern 3.8-liter flat-six, sourced from the 987 Cayman S. The mid-mounted engine received steel internals, forged pistons, and a Life Racing ECU, allowing it to produce between 380-400 hp (283-299 kW / 358-406 PS) transmitted to the rear axle via a 6-speed manual. For comparison, the original 914 produced up to 109 hp (81 kW / 110 PS) in its most powerful guise with the old 2.0-liter six-cylinder engine.

The original 914 chassis has been stiffened with the addition of a tubular chassis and new suspension mounts. The suspension geometry is sourced from the Porsche Cayman but here it is combined with WRC-derived three-way adjustable coilover shock absorbers by Reiger. Brakes have been significantly upgraded to handle all that extra grunt, with vented and cross-drilled discs, Porsche Brembo four-piston calipers, and an AP Racing pedal box. Other modifications include the fly-by-wire throttle, the fuel cell with an FIA-compliant bladder, and the bespoke stainless steel exhaust system.

Fifteen Eleven Design is the “classic & prestige” arm of the WRC team Mellors Elliot Motorsport with 12 WRC titles under its belt, something that explains the engineering expertise behind their restomod projects. The company is already accepting orders for the Porsche 914 Restomod which is available in right or left-hand drive. As expected, the extensive modifications come with an eye-watering price tag, starting at £350,000 ($442,512).
