One Arizona homeowner had the fright of their life after a Tesla barreled through their concrete wall and took a dive in their backyard pool. The driver of the Tesla survived without injury but the same can’t be said of the car or the yard it crashed into. Police are still searching for the cause of the crash.
The incident occurred near 35th and Beardsley Rd. just north of Glendale, Arizona. The homeowner, Joe Papineau, says he thought that he’d heard an explosion. “I was sleeping in my bed when all of a sudden I hear this huge crash and big explosion,” he told local news station AZFamily.
Papineau says he believes the Tesla driver was traveling southbound on 35th Street when another car pulled out in front of the driver. In a desperate attempt to avoid an accident, the Tesla driver made an evasive maneuver but couldn’t recover in time to avoid Papineau’s backyard.

That backyard was just recently renovated according to the owner. It had all new sod, new landscaping, and improvements to the pool before the accident. Despite the feelings Papineau must have about losing the benefit of all that hard work, he jumped into the pool himself to get the driver out.
Despite extensive damage to the Tesla including a demolished windshield and front end, the driver escaped with only minor injuries. No other passengers were in the car at the time of the accident. Police are still investigating the crash and have yet to release any formal statement about it.
