Porsche is rejigging its Cayenne lineup for 2024, and that’s good news for fans of fast SUVs. Gone is the Turbo variant, and its place in the lineup has been usurped by the plug-in hybrid Turbo E-Hybrid, which gets a bigger battery and a whole lot more power.

Whereas the 2023 Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid made 670 hp (500 kW/679 PS), the 2024 Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid gets a nearly 10 percent boost in power, and now makes 729 hp (544 kW/739 PS) and 700 lb-ft (949 Nm) of torque. That power comes thanks to an extensively revised 4.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V8 engine that makes 591 hp (441 kW/599 PS) on its own. It is combined with a 174 hp (130 kW/176 PS) electric motor that is fed by a new 25.9 kWh battery pack located under the trunk.

It all works together to make the most powerful Cayenne Porsche has ever sold. Thanks to its impressive power, the SUV can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 3.5 seconds and can keep going all the way to a top speed of 183 mph (295 km/h).

 The 729-HP 2024 Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid Is Porsche’s Most Powerful SUV Ever

To keep that power in check, the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid comes as standard with a new two-chamber, two-valve air suspension. The technology allows the vehicle to adjust its compression and rebound settings separately, which means more control over the quality of the ride.

Porsche says that this technology allows it to design an SUV that’s more comfortable while cruising, as well as one that feels more taut and controlled while on-track. In combination with the standard Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus and the optional rear-axle steering, the Cayenne should be as intimidating and graceful as a gangland enforcer with pointer shoes on.

To signal the performance to outsiders, Porsche has equipped the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid with a Turbo-specific front fascia that includes large air intakes and air blades in high-gloss black. On the other hand, the wheel arches and the lower rear fascia are kept body color, to give it a high-performance look. Finally, the dual exhausts are made of brushed aluminum and the brake calipers are painted red.

Inside, owners will be greeted by aluminum trim on the dash and doors, and a Race-Tex roof liner will give it a sporty feel. A GT Sport steering wheel comes standard, and is equipped with a special drive mode button. Front seat occupants will be held in place thanks to 18-way adjustable leather Sports seats, but 14-way adjustable leather Comfort seats can also be selected.

Pricing and availability

The new 2024 Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid will be offered in both the standard body style (starting at $148,550 incl. destination) and the coupe body style (starting at $153,050 incl. destination) and is expected to reach U.S. dealerships next spring.
