The minivan segment is getting its mojo back and the latest automaker to throw its hat into the people-mover ring is Volvo. The Geely-owned brand has released a teaser for the EM90, the firm’s first ever electric minivan.
Volvo says the EM90 is ‘designed for you to make the most of the time spent in the car, like a Scandinavian living room on the move,’ and to ram the message home the teaser video shows a Scandi living room shot from above morphing into the interior of the EM90 viewed through the luxury box’s large panoramic glass roof.
The video and accompanying still image also show a second glass roof above the first row of seats and conjoined front and rear door handles confirming that the EM90 will have sliding rear doors. We can also male out the illuminated Volvo script below the rear window and the brand’s trademark Thor-hammer taillights.

Volvo hasn’t released any further info about its new ‘premium’ minivan, but we know from earlier reports that it will be based on the existing 009 minivan from another of Geely’s brands, Zeekr. We wrote about Volvo’s MPV plans back in January when the president of Volvo Cars Greater China Sales Company gave a presentation to members of the media in which a slide referenced a new minivan.
The Zeekr 009 has a grille that looks like some kind of industrial-grade shredding machine but we can be sure that the van’s nose, if not its entire body, will be restyled to make it visually fit in with the rest of the Volvo family. We’re also expecting the interior to be adapted to fit Volvo’s aesthetic ideals, including its portrait-oriented central infotainment screen.
But the EM90 is likely to closely follow the Zeekr’s lead below the skin. The electric 009 is equipped with a pair of electric motors, all-wheel drive, and delivers an impressive 536 hp (544 PS / 400 kW).
The gallery below contains a Carscoops’ rendering showing how the EM90 could look, which is not endorsed by Volvo, and certain images of the Zeekr 009.
