As with the members of all subcultures and groups, automotive enthusiasts are varied and individual. But there are a few opinions, preferences, and in some cases rallying calls that have been parroted so many times that it can be easy to assume everyone feels the same way, even if they don’t.

Today, we’re asking you to buck the trends, and remind the world that not all enthusiasts feel the same way about everything. We’re asking what clichés you’re sick of hearing repeated in forums, comment sections, and car show conversations.

There are a lot of opinions to choose from. For instance, maybe you hate wagons. While they add a little more space to the rear-end of a sedan, sometimes the modification just makes a car look ungainly. I love the RS6 Avant but, if I’m honest, I think the Genesis G70 Shooting Brake looks awkward, and I don’t really mind that it’s not sold in North America. Sure, some wagons are cool, but maybe you think the obsession with them is a little over the top.

One of the stereotypes that is so prevalent that it feels unavoidable is that enthusiasts love performance cars. While it’s a cliché to say that every car needs more power and less weight, there are enough people out there who collect luxury vehicles, little cars, or turn-of-the-century motors, that we have to conclude not everyone feels that way. Maybe some of the people who own a classic Cadillac resent the assumption that they’ll also be interested in a Caterham Seven.

Or maybe you just don’t care about manual transmissions. After all, the technology has long since stopped being associated with better lap times. It’s also a minor inconvenience on the road, and the arguments for it are largely based in appeals to tradition, which don’t actually make a car any better. Maybe you think manuals are fine, but not worthy of the rallying call “SAVE THE MANUALS” that can be found on t-shirts at every car meet in America.
