When accidents happen on public roads we expect the involved parties to work it out. In this case, one BMW M3 driver decided that cutting off another driver, clipping them with his car, and speeding off was the right way to work it out. Now, the dashcam owner who has footage of the whole incident says that police aren’t doing much to help bring the BMW driver to justice.
The footage posted to Reddit on Wednesday, September 6th, appears to show video recorded just a day before. In it, we see a MINI Cooper behind the dashcam car in lane one. In lane two is a silver BMW M3 that first slides behind the MINI as they approach traffic. As the dashcam car, the MINI, and the BMW pass that traffic the BMW attempts to go in the right lane.
As the video shows, there’s simply not enough room and as the BMW driver cuts off the MINI he taps the front of it with his rear fender. Almost immediately, the BMW driver jumps onto the shoulder but not to pull over. Instead, we see him in a forward-facing cam speed past traffic in lane two and continue on slipping through traffic to flee the scene.

The accident itself was actually a surprise to the poster Begel96. They said that they only noticed the BMW as it was passing on the shoulder and kicking up dirt which is why they saved the clip on their dashcam. Only after reviewing it did they notice the hit-and-run. As any upstanding citizen would, they contacted the state police but according to Begel96 it “didn’t seem like they were going to do anything about it.”
That’s somewhat puzzling given that he gave police both the plate number of the MINI and of the BMW, which happens to be from Connecticut. A sleuth on Reddit, JMPopaleetus, claims that it was registered in just the past couple of months and at the time had 70,106 miles on the odometer.
Despite all of this, it seems that the case could end up being nothing more than a clear reminder that even video evidence of a crime doesn’t guarantee justice. For now, all we can do is hope that the MINI driver finds out about the footage and can make a claim themselves.
