The BMW Vision Neue Klasse concept unveiled earlier this month isn’t simply important because it debuts a new EV architecture for the firm but also because of its design. The concept’s design previewed a new styling language for the firm that will be particularly evident on all six of the Neue Klasse-based EVs that BMW introduces between 2025 and 2027.
Much has been said about BMW’s design direction in recent years but for the most part, the firm has remained steadfast in its belief that overt styling is a good thing. This has led to creations like the iX and XM, vehicles with designs quite unlike other BMW models. However, under the Neue Klasse era, BMW design boss Adrian van Hooydonk says these new EVs will share many design traits and have a strong overlap.
“Since they will come in such short succession, you will see a strong overlap, perhaps stronger than when you do a whole model generation in 10 years, which is what we used to do,” van Hooydonk said.

The design boss of BMW added that because the Neue Klasse vehicles are being released in quick succession, “it will appear as if they have grown together a little more.” But, “you will still recognize individual characters,” he added, noting the firm will try to continue its current philosophy of offering unique grille designs on different models.
“We used to have 10-year cycles, often starting with the 7-Series and then trickling down, and then the last one would come 10 years after the first one,” van Hooydonk added. “Now the change will come in a relatively short space of time, so it will feel like we turn the pages all at once.”
Autocar reports that the first EV to be spawned out of the Vision Neue Klasse concept will be BMW’s electric 3-Series sedan. This model will then be followed up by an electric equivalent to the BMW X3 before four other vehicles arrive.
