Ford offers so many personalization options on the 2024 Mustang that each build could be totally different to the one before it on the line. But the Mustang in these pictures takes things to extremes: it’s not even the same as itself.
Spotted by a Mustang7G forum poster advertised at Paoli Ford in West Chester, PA, it’s a Vapor Blue metallic GT Premium fastback, and at first glance it seems like there’s nothing unusual about it. But the interior pictures show it having two completely different seats. Though both are Recaros, they have different upholstery and different color Recaro badges.
While the driver’s chair appears to to be a GT-correct optional Recaro seat with leather facings, the passenger chair seems to be covered in Dinamica microfiber cloth, a spec normally only available on the Mustang Dark Horse. The Paoli Ford advert gives no explanation for the mismatch, or even an acknowledgement that the seats are different.
Forum posters with knowledge of the production line, delivery and dealer PDI processes explain in the thread that line workers receive the seats covered in protective plastic, which isn’t removed until the car reaches the dealer, so it’s maybe not that easy to spot that you’ve grabbed the wrong chair. And the mistake could even be down to Ford’s supplier mislabelling the bag. None of which explains why the dealer has said nothing about the mistake.

Naturally there are a few comments on the forums sniping at the Ford employees who went on strike yesterday, suggesting that they don’t remotely deserve the pay rises they’re seeking if this Mustang is representative of the care they put into their work. But happy, valued workers are productive workers, so maybe if they were getting annual raises and more than a measly two or three weeks vacation per year they’d be pulling out all the stops to prevent mistakes like this one, and the others that have slipped through.
Yes, this seat goof isn’t the only Ford quality mess-up we’ve come across recently. Others include a Ford Bronco Wildtrak Sasquatch which also had mismatched seats, and a Mustang EcoBoost convertible that had a plain Mustang sill insert on the driver’s side and a Dark Horse one on the passenger sill. You can check them out in the gallery below. Ford actually had to stop Mustang production several times this spring to rectify quality control issues.
We imagine that Paoli Ford could supply a correct leather passenger seat for the blue fastback’s buyer, though we’d be pushing for a second Dark Horse seat to really make this Mustang stand out from the GT crowd.
