A few dozen 2024 Hyundai Palisade models are being recalled in the United States and interestingly, only examples fitted with the available ‘Dark Premium’ suede seats are impacted.
Hyundai’s recall notice issued with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) states that the Occupant Detection System (ODS) of select Palisade models may have been improperly calibrated by the supplier. As such, the system may fail to detect a passenger-side occupant and not deploy the airbags in the event of a crash.
The issue has been caused by a supplier calibrating the ODS for the standard leather seats, rather than the suede seats. Hyundai was informed by the ODS supplier of the fault on August 7 and on August 18, the car manufacturer decided to issue a recall for all affected vehicles in the United States. Fortunately, the car manufacturer is not aware of any crashes or injuries caused by the fault. The 63 impacted models were built between July 4, 2023, and July 19, 2023.

Hyundai will inform both dealerships and owners of the recall on October 24. Owners will be asked to bring their vehicle to a nearby Hyundai dealer where the ODS software will be updated free of charge.
This is not the only recall that Hyundai has issued for the Palisade this year. In March, the company recalled 167,085 Palisade models from the 2021-2023 model years because the windshield wiper system may only function intermittently or could completely fail due to an accumulation of snow and/or ice at the bottom of the windshield. This recall was issued approximately six months after Hyundai recalled a separate 126,000 Palisade models from 2020 and 2021 for the same problem.
To make matters worse for certain Palisade owners, Hyundai confirmed last month that some 2023-2024MY models have a transmission electric oil pump used for the Idle Stop & Go System that could trigger a fire.
