UPDATE 9/26: The owner and driver of the Corvette, Robert W., shared footage of the terrifying incident that was captured by the C8’s Performance Data Recorder in a Facebook group for C8 owners and friends, as reported by Road&Track.
In his account of the incident, Robert explained that he and his wife Lisa were out for a relaxed drive in their Corvette when they reached a 4-way intersection. After coming to a stop, they proceeded past the stop sign when “a truck from across the intersection came straight at us”.

“In the video, you’ll see the truck heading right for us and hitting us head-on,” he wrote in the Facebook post. “After the initial impact, the truck driver continued to accelerate, only stopping after some remarkable witnesses intervened. I yelled at them to turn off the truck since it was leaking antifreeze on us.”
Following “a nerve-wracking wait”, firefighters arrived to stabilize the Chevy Silverado truck, but it took around “20 minutes” to free them from inside the car because the truck’s wheels were blocking the doors. “Thankfully, my wife and I were both uninjured,” Robert said. “We’re incredibly grateful for the C8’s engineering – it held up amazingly well”.

There are increasingly vocal concerns about the size and height of pickup trucks, and in at least one case, that imperious stature has led to everyone’s worst fear: a monster truck-style crash with a smaller car, in this case, a C8 Corvette. Fortunately, authorities say that no injuries were reported as a result of this bizarre accident.
The collision took place in Thornton, Colorado, just a few miles north of Denver. Although the local fire department did not provide detailed information about the incident’s circumstances, it is evident that a head-on collision occurred between a black Chevrolet Silverado and an orange Chevrolet C8 Corvette
Subsequently, the truck seemed to have climbed onto the low-slung sports car, ultimately ending up on its roof. Thankfully, the efforts to enhance the Corvette’s safety in a rollover scenario proved successful, as the mid-engine Chevy managed to support the weight of the significantly larger truck.

Unfortunately for the driver of the Corvette, despite not suffering injuries serious enough to warrant a hospital visit, they were still trapped in their vehicle for a period of time. That’s because the Silverado landed with one wheel on the driver-side door.
As a result, first responders with the City of Thornton Fire Department were forced to jack up the Silverado and remove its passenger-side wheel in order to provide enough clearance to open the Corvette’s door and let the driver out. Not sure I’d want to be stuck under a Silverado for any amount of time.
While it’s great to hear that there were no serious injuries, it’s hard not to marvel at the luck of everyone involved. It’s also hard to imagine how badly things could have gone if the Corvette in this incident were of the same vintage as the Silverado.
