Many believe that the auto show as we know it is dead but this month’s Detroit Auto Show is set to buck the trend of ever-shrinking auto shows and will include no less than 35 vehicle brands, many of which will be represented by carmakers themselves while others will be represented in dealer-supported vehicle displays.
A total of 16 car manufacturers will each display multiple models at the event. These consist of Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Ford, GMC, Jeep, Kia, Lexus, Lincoln, Ram, Tesla, Toyota and VW. Of these brands, Tesla’s presence is perhaps the most surprising given its historical lack of interest in car shows. This sentiment may be changing as it is currently present at the Munich Motor Show.
No less than 19 other brands will be represented by dealerships. These are Alfa Romeo, Aston Martin, Audi, Bentley, BMW, Honda, Hyundai, Infiniti, Jaguar, Lamborghini, Land Rover, Maserati, McLaren, Mercedes-Benz, Mini, Polestar, Porsche, Rolls-Royce, and Volvo.

“We’re thrilled to be able to bring auto show audiences a broad spectrum of brands and vehicles,” Detroit Auto Show executive director Rod Alberts said. “As a dealer association-backed auto show, one of our main goals is to display all the brands that are sold in our region. This blend of bringing together corporate- and dealer-supported vehicles is trending at auto shows nationwide, and it’s really become the catalyst for the future success of shows across the country. Dealers are still the closest conduit to the consumer.”
A new addition to this year’s Detroit Auto Show will be the ‘Exotic and Luxury Showcase.’ This area will gather together a host of supercars and also feature a flying car from Alef Aeronautics based in California. Additionally, BMW, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Ford, GMC, Tesla, and VW will be running their EVs at an indoor track. Ford and Tesla will also offer attendees the chance to drive along a pre-determined route next to the Detroit River and over parts of the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix race circuit.
The Detroit Auto Show 2023 runs from September 13-24.
