The owner of a yellow Dodge Charger has been fortunate to survive a blast that destroyed her car and part of her home in Charlotte earlier this week.
The explosion occurred roughly 30 seconds after the car’s owner, Rashanda Broome, hoped inside the Dodge. She proceeded to light a cigarette but unfortunately, appears to have forgotten that there was a propane tank being stored in the back seat. Terrifying footage from a neighbor’s security camera shows a huge blast rip through the Dodge, blowing out the windows and sending shrapnel flying into the air.
Things didn’t stop with the explosion either. Soon after, the Dodge caught fire that quickly spread to the house, destroying the garage and a large portion of the living quarters.

WSOC-TV reports that Broome escaped the Charger shortly after the explosion but that she suffered third-degree burns. Her sister, Amanda Linder, says it is fortunate that the outcome wasn’t worse.
“She’s alive and well we thank God that she didn’t lose a limb or anything,” Linder said. “She’s trying to just keep her pain under control and just her mental status. She’s very traumatized from the situation…With everything considering, with the fire, the car, it could be worse, but we’re thankful that it’s not worse.”
A man inside the house rushed out to try and put out the inferno with a fire extinguisher but it didn’t work. Broome’s neighbor, Diego Ledbetter, quickly called 911 after the explosion. Fire crews arrived on the scene but were not able to save the Charger, nor some of the house. The intensity of the fire also melted a section of vinyl siding on a neighboring home.
