Ford is getting ready to unveil the first electrified version of the Ranger midsize pickup, most likely featuring a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The automaker published a short video teaser on its social media channels from various markets around the world including Australia and Europe, announcing the September 19 debut.
The current generation of the Ford Ranger (T6.2) was originally introduced in November 2021 with petrol and diesel powertrains, although the company confirmed from the start that its platform was engineered to support electrification. The teaser doesn’t reveal any details about the new variant but the description “Why compromise if you could get the best of both worlds?” strongly supports the plug-in hybrid scenario. We can see footage of a loaded truck towing some kind of trailer, plus some driving shots in urban and off-road environments.

Reports from the past couple of years suggest that the Ford Ranger PHEV will pair a turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost engine with an undisclosed number of electric motors and a battery pack. The combined output and the EV-only range are still unknown, but the electrified truck will likely offer all-wheel-drive. The PHEV powertrain of the Ranger is expected to find its way under the bonnet of the mechanically-related Ford Bronco, as well as the Ford Everest SUV, and the VW Amarok pickup.
Besides Europe and Australia, the PHEV truck could also be offered in North America, although nothing has been officially confirmed at this point. We will learn more about the electrified Ford Ranger in a couple of days. Until then, we will be on the lookout for more teasers and update this story accordingly.
