The MG Cyberster has made another public appearance in Europe, this time showing off its sleek styling and new interior to showgoers at the Munich Motor Show.
The Cyberster is an all-electric sports car from MG, which aims to rekindle some of the brand’s heritage, getting some inspiration from the MGB and TF and perhaps also taking a leaf out of the book of more contemporary roadsters such as the Mazda MX-5 and Porsche Boxster 718.
The Cyberster will be an important car for the now Chinese-owned brand. While MG’s press material has often traded on its heritage to market its current crop of crossovers, there’s always been the distinct impression of a disconnect between the British sportscar company of yore and the modern iteration.
The Cyberster has the potential to change all that. And from the looks of it in Munich, it’s could be on the right path. This is the first time we’ve been able to show live pictures of the production-spec interior, which had its initial outing at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Thankfully, the road-spec car will ditch the yoke that featured in earlier prototypes while the rest of the details are taken down a notch. The entire cabin is covered in red leather, and the buttons for the gear selectors are mounted on the dash. There are further switches for the electric roof in the center, while the steering wheel features two joystick-like buttons for menu navigation.
The left-most screen in one of our shots seems to indicate the ability to adjust the distance on some form of radar-guided cruise control, while a detailed — presumably interactive — graphic on the center screen shows the car with its door ajar and lights on. Although a center touch screen rests next to the drive mode buttons, on top is the grateful addition of physical buttons to interact with the climate controls, including temperature and fan speed.
The low-slung roadster’s preview form is very close to production, with the interior’s cockpit-like triple-screen layout confirmed to make it to the road car.

Interestingly, the car featured on the stand at Munich seems to have gained a new sensor on the upwards-opening door. This could possibly be a way of stopping nasty prangs with other vehicles or parking bollards.
MG hasn’t yet confirmed the final production specification of the Cyberster nor what models will be offered in Europe. However, we have a good idea thanks to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
A rear-wheel drive model will be the entry point into MG Cyberster ownership, producing 310 hp from a single electric motor. A dual electric motor variant will up the ante, providing all-wheel drive via a more powerful 335 hp rear electric motor coupled to an extra 201 hp motor up front. The result is a combined 536 hp and 535 lb-ft (727 Nm) of torque and 0-60mph (0-96 km/h) time of around 3 seconds.
Of course, you’d expect the car to be lightweight for that true classic roadster formula that the Brits just seemed to perfect. Being an EV, the laws of physics dictate that that’s not the case. At 4,376 lbs (1,984 kg), it’s got some heft to it.
Both variants are understood to be powered by a 77 kWh battery pack as standard. From that, you can expect a range of up to 360 miles (579 km) — although that’s based on the China light-duty vehicle test cycle. Expect that number to dip once it undergoes WLTP testing.
