Mercedes-Benz is introducing a host of new entertainment and navigation features to more than 700,000 of its vehicles worldwide with a new over-the-air software update launching this month.

The updates will be made available to vehicles equipped with the second generation of the firm’s MBUX infotainment system and can be made either through the display itself or with the Mercedes me connect app. The first new feature is the introduction of Dolby Atmos for S-Class, EQE, and EQS models with the Entertainment Package Plus and the available Burmester Sound System, allowing occupants to enjoy an even better listening experience.

Additionally, Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that select 2024MY vehicles will now include the YouTube Web app for added in-car entertainment. Mercedes owners in Austria, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland, and the UK are also receiving NewsFlash, a feature where they can listen to newscasts on general news, business, finance, sports, culture, and many other topics. This system is offered in five languages and will be introduced to the U.S. soon.

The car manufacturer has also tweaked the software of the front passenger display meaning audio from content viewed on it can now be played on the in-car sound system, rather than exclusively through headphones like before. Owners can also select a wallpaper for the screen.

Those who own Mercedes-Benz vehicles with the first-generation MBUX system will also receive Google’s Place Details function. This feature adds detailed information about more than 200 million businesses and locations around the world via the navigation system.

“Our in-house developed Mercedes-Benz software enables great in-car entertainment, immersive Dolby Atmos audio, video streaming and enhanced navigation experiences,” Mercedes-Benz chief software officer Magnus Östberg said. “Equipped with our pioneering MBUX infotainment system, our vehicles meet the rapidly changing desires of our customers worldwide through regular over-the-air feature updates.”
