If the standard 2024 AMG GLC 43 and 63 S E Performance SUVs seem a bit too sensible and roomy for your tastes, don’t worry, because Mercedes has revealed the coupe variants of these high-performance editions. Just as Mercedes did with the new-generation of the standard GLC SUV introduced earlier this year, the AMG GLC Coupe duo have had their six- and eight-cylinder engines in the old 43 and 63 models replaced with hybridized inline fours.

That’s right, the days of the V6 and V8 engines we knew and loved in AMG GLC models are long gone. Instead, the new M139l 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine under the hood of the AMG GLC 43 and 63 S E Performance sacrifices character and sound for more power, as well as better fuel economy and lower emissions.

In addition, the new AMG GLC Coupe gets sleeker body styling aimed at those who evidently prefer a car that’s like a sedan but less capable on the road and with just a touch more practicality.

The 416hp AMG GLC 43 Coupe

In the new AMG GLC 43, the 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine works with a mild-hybrid system to deliver a combined output of 416 hp (421 PS / 310 kW) and a brief boost of 13 hp from the belt-driven starter generator at lower engine speeds, along with 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of peak torque at 5,000 rpm. Power is directed to all four wheels through a standard nine-speed transmission.

Mercedes claims it can reach an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h) and accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 4.7 seconds (0-100 km/h in 4.8 seconds). Interestingly, despite the increase in reserves, the sprint time matches the outgoing 2023 AMG GLC 43 with the 385 hp 3.0-liter bi-turbocharged V6.

The 680 hp GLC 63 S E Performance Coupe

If you’re looking for a bigger kick in the pants, then you’ll have to move up to the new GLC S E Performance. It leverages an even more powerful version of the M139l 2.0L turbo four producing 469 hp (476 PS / 350 kW) and then adds a 201 hp permanently excited synchronous electric motor (PSM), a high-performance battery and the AMG Performance 4MATIC+ fully variable all-wheel drive. The total output of this system is an impressive 671 hp (680 PS / 500 kW) with a peak torque of 752 lb-ft (554 Nm).

The sprint from 0 to 60 mph takes just 3.4 seconds (0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds), and the top speed is electronically limited to 171 mph (275 km/h).

What Hasn’t Changed

If you’ve been considering the coupe variants, they feature the same exact parts as the already-released AMG GLC. The chassis, the suspension, and the powertrains are the same. Moreover, the interior is nearly identical too. Drivers would be hard-pressed to determine which car they’re in from the perspective in that seat alone. Rear passengers, on the other hand, would notice the difference due to the sloping roofline.

Mercedes hasn’t released any details regarding pricing or availability at this time. Additionally, it’s unclear whether the two models will be marketed under the 2024MY or 2025MY moniker.
