Nissan is celebrating 50 years since the debut of the original Caravan light commercial vehicle with a special edition in Japan. The Caravan 50th Anniversary adds a few special visual details to a tried-and-tested recipe that has been around for quite a long time.
The sixth-generation Caravan – originally named NV350 – was introduced in 2011, but remains on sale following two consecutive facelifts in 2017 and in 2021.
The 50th Anniversary model is distinguished by the black finish on the grille, electrically retractable mirrors, door handles, sliding door rails, and tailgate garnish. Those are best combined with the pictured “Cashmere Greige” body color which is the most striking among the 4 available color options. Finally, “50th Anniversary” emblems can be found on the tailgate and embroidered on the headrests.

The anniversary special is based on the Grand Premium GX trim and is available in a single 5,080 mm (200.0 inches) long body type with a stretched wheelbase, standard roof height, and low floor. Nissan says that the model is not only used for work, as some of its customers enjoy it during their leisure activities. Despite its age, the LCV comes standard with various Nissan Intelligent Mobility safety systems including an around-view monitor.
The special edition of the Caravan is available with either a 2.0-liter QR20DE petrol engine producing 129 hp (96 kW / 130 PS) and 178 Nm (131 lb-ft) of torque, or a Mitsubishi-sourced 2.5-liter 4N16 diesel which is good for 130 hp (97 kW / 132 PS) and 370 Nm (273 lb-ft). Power is transmitted to either the rear or to all four wheels via a 7-speed automatic gearbox.
Sales of the Nissan Caravan 50th Anniversary in Japan will commence on October 10 and continue until March 2024. Pricing starts from ¥3,483,700 ($23,668) for the 2WD version going up to ¥4,453,900 ($30,260) for the 4WD with the diesel engine.
