An online petition has been launched aiming to ensure that GM lives up to its plans to sell the Chevrolet Equinox EV from near the $30,000 mark.
Chevrolet will end production of the current-generation Bolt EV at the end of this year and while it is working on an Ultium-based successor, it hasn’t said when this model will launch. This means the brand’s cheapest EV will soon be the 2024 Blazer EV 2LT starting at $56,715, a figure that puts it out of the price range of many consumers.
A petition launched by the Electric Vehicle Association wants to ensure that Chevrolet lives up to previous statements that the Equinox EV will start at “around $30,000”. Those signing the petition appear to be concerned that GM may have second thoughts about the Equinox EV’s pricing having recently scrapped plans to build an entry-level version of the Blazer EV starting at around $45,000.

“If GM is going to lead America in the EV transition, that cannot happen to the Equinox,” the petition reads. “Stay true to your word. Keep the Equinox EV around $30,000 and do not eliminate the lowest trim level. We believe in an all-electric future and we are counting on GM to help us get there.”
Chevrolet unveiled the Equinox EV earlier this year. We know that entry-level models will feature an electric motor driving the front wheels with an estimated 210 hp and 242 lb-ft (327 Nm) of torque. A dual-motor version with 290 hp and 346 lb-ft (469 Nm) will also be offered. The standard battery should give the SUV approximately 250 miles (402 km) of range while an extended-range battery version should be good for around 300 miles (483 km) on a charge.
