A man in a grey Mercedes-Benz made the decision to flee from a traffic stop, resulting in an officer being taken along for the ride during the initial moments. Video footage captures D. Lobo, aged 31, rapidly accelerating away from the traffic stop with a police officer clinging to the car’s interior through an open door. Fortunately, the officer managed to escape serious injury, and the police subsequently apprehended the brazen driver.
This short video comes to us from the Massachusetts State Police Department. According to authorities, the incident began when they pulled over the driver of a Mercedes-Benz CLS 550 for “motor vehicle violations.” During the course of the traffic stop, Lobo opened the driver’s door.
While two officers were engaged in a conversation with him just outside the door, Lobo made the impulsive decision to attempt an escape from the traffic stop. At that moment, one officer tried to reach inside and prevent Lobo from fleeing. Although the trooper managed to hold onto the car’s interior for a brief period, he was unable to thwart Lobo from shifting into gear and driving away.

The footage from the patrol car shows that not long after taking off, the officer decided to let go. He slides on the pavement for a short distance before regaining a foothold and sprinting back to the police car. The two officers then begin a pursuit. MSP posted the video at a point in time while they were still looking for Lobo.
Between then and now, NBC Boston reported that authorities found him at a residence on Union Street. He’s now being held on a $5,000 bond and facing charges of assault and battery on a police officer, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and trafficking in fentanyl. Frankly, he might be happy the list isn’t longer and with considerably harsher charges.
According to the MSP, the officer who fell from the Mercedes sustained only minor injuries.
