The Tesla Powerwall 3 is officially live on the automaker’s website. The details of this new energy storage device offer an appealing option for those concerned about how they’ll handle a power outage. Some customers appear to already have them despite the fact that the site says the product isn’t coming til 2024.

According to Tesla, the Powerwall 3 is a “fully integrated solar and battery system,” so it comes with its own solar inverter. That inverter can handle up to six solar inputs.

In addition, it can pump out a maximum power of 11.5 kW whether it’s receiving power from the grid or power is out. That’s up from the 10 kW peak available with the Powerwall 2 and the 9.6 kW max from the Powerwall + when the grid is down.

The new Powerwall measures 43.25 inches tall, 24 inches wide, and 7.6 inches thick. That takes up a slightly smaller footprint than the second-gen Powerwall but is about two inches thicker. That total physical volume might explain why it can store exactly the same amount as the Powerwall 2, 13.5 kWh.

Interestingly, the Tesla website specifically says that Powerwall 3 is coming in 2024. Interested parties can’t do any more than simply “get updates” either. There’s no way to buy or order a Powerwall 3 for when it does go live. Despite that, keen-eyed Tesla fans noticed on September 8th that some customers were already getting it.

CEO Elon Musk did as much as confirm it himself by replying to a tweet about the Powerwall 3 saying “PW3 is optimized for ease of installation & high power, which means that a single Powerwall can serve as an uninterruptible power supply for most homes.” Pricing isn’t currently available but Powerwall 2 costs $8,700. We expect this new generation to be at least that much.
