Xpeng is the latest Chinese car manufacturer working on an all-electric MPV and has showcased the forthcoming model with three teaser images of a camouflaged prototype.
The new vehicle will be known as the Xpeng X9 and serve as a direct rival to luxurious MPVs like the Zeekr 009, Buick GL8, and Denza D9. From a visual standpoint, the X9 is not as bold or dramatic as the 009 from Zeekr but still adopts quite a striking shape and design unlike traditional minivans. It should prove to be right up the alley of Chinese buyers.
When the X9 is viewed from the front, we can see that it sports split LED headlights with a full-width LED light bar. Xpeng has also given the MPV a sizeable lower grille that may have some kind of adjustable slats that can open and close to improve aerodynamics or boost cooling. Additionally, the X9 rocks a truly massive windscreen and has very thin A-pillars, no doubt providing drivers with an excellent view of the road ahead of them.

The side profile of the MPV is particularly noteworthy with an almost perfectly flat roof that extends back to a steeply raked rear window. The MPV also has triangular windows just in front of the wing mirrors, pop-out door handles, and privacy glass for the second and third rows. No complete images of the vehicle’s rear end have been released but we can see it is equipped with a thin set of LED taillights and has quite a short rear overhang.
Technical specifications are not yet known but given that the X9 will be positioned as a rival to Zeekr’s 009, it should offer similar performance. The Zeekr is driven by a pair of electric motors with a combined 536 hp and can accelerate to 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 4.5 seconds. It also has a massive 140 kWh battery pack providing it with an electric range of 511 miles (822 km) according to the CLTP cycle.
