BMW likely hoped that the design of the recent Neue Klasse Concept would satisfy those who believe the brand’s design philosophy has been in decline for, well, ever since the mid-2000s. While we find it to be a refreshing change, not everyone shares the same sentiment. Therefore, Sugar Design has taken the initiative to rejuvenate the design by transforming the concept into an estate.

We’ve long been fond of the design of BMW’s estate cars and often find them to be more visually appealing than the sedans on which they are based. Unsurprisingly, the Neue Klasse Concept also looks slightly better in estate guise.

Is This The Future Of Electric Estates From BMW?

The most noticeable styling changes are present on the profile. To begin, the designer decided to revamp the windows. In the Neue Klasse Concept sedan, they extend quite far down the doors, with their base positioned below the line of the hood. Although some production BMWs feature this design, it doesn’t particularly enhance the overall look.

Consequently, Sugar Design has modified the hood’s line, slightly lowering it to align with the base of the side windows. This adjustment also creates a consistent shoulder line that runs from the hood to the edge of the LED taillights.

Converting the Neue Klasse Concept from a sedan into a wagon, or Touring in BMW terminology, also necessitated an extension of the roofline as well as the fitment of additional windows behind the C-pillars. A pair of roof rails also catch the eye as does the small spoiler stretching out from the roof. Rounding out the visual modifications made is the presence of traditional door handles.

BMW has confirmed that it will launch six new models based on the Neue Klasse platform between 2005 and 2007. We don’t yet know if one of these will be an estate like this but given the growing demand for SUVs, we’re doubtful.

Note: These are imaginative renderings and haven’t received the official stamp of approval from BMW.
