The new Mercedes-AMG SL 63 is a seductive-looking car with stunning levels of performance and comfort. For those in the market for a fast convertible, it is one of the better options out there. But if you want a vehicle that will be safe with wild moose running around, is the SL 63 the car to get?
Of course, no one is actually going to buy a car based solely on how it performs in the fabled moose test but it does showcase how a car can handle at its limits and whether it remains easy to control. KM77 recently got its hands on the AMG SL 63 for the moose test and found that it performs well, even though it didn’t break any records.

The review starts with a high-speed slalom which the SL 63 was able to complete in 22.8 seconds. This test was conducted while the car was fitted with sticky Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires and its score puts it ahead of an Audi RS 3 and BMW XM at 23.1 seconds and 22.9 seconds respectively but it’s also slower than the Smart #1 Brabus with a time of 22.5 seconds, Tesla Model S Plaid at 21.8 seconds, Alpine A110 S at 21.6 seconds, and a Porsche Taycan GTS at 21.5 seconds.
Then came time for the moose test. In the first attempt, the driver entered the test at 75 km/h (46.6 mph) while driving the car in Comfort mode and hit a couple of cones. He then repeated the test at 75 km/h (46.6 mph) once again and this time it managed to get through smoothly.
The driver also made an attempt at 78 km/h (48.4 mph) while driving the car in Sport+ mode. Interestingly, the Mercedes experienced plenty of understeer in this mode and it took out a number of cones in the attempt.
