A previous-gen Toyota Tacoma served as a base for Flex Automotive’s Renoca Windansea, the latest member of the retro Renoca series. The truck got a custom face inspired by the Land Cruiser 60 Series while retaining the modern amenities and V6 engine of the midsize pickup.
While the majority of the donor vehicle’s body panels on the profile and rear end are obviously carried over from the donor vehicle, the Renoca Windandsea is visually distinguished by the new front clip. The round headlights with unpainted plastic trim, rectangular grille with Toyota lettering, and steel bumpers are direct references to the J60. The same applies to the redesigned front fenders and more horizontal bonnet which were necessary in order for the boxier nose to blend in with the Tacoma bodywork. The end result is not as smooth as Renoca’s Land Cruiser J100, but it certainly gives a unique and striking look to the popular truck.

The vehicle rides on a cool set of black wheels with chrome center caps which are also found in other Renoca builds. There is also a range of optional accessories including side steps, bed racks, and fog lights. In order to spice up the looks of the interior, Flex Automotive offers dashboard covers, new upholstery options for the seats, floor mats by WeatherTech, and an upgraded audio system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
Under the bonnet lies the stock 3.5-liter V6 engine producing 278 hp ( 207 kW / 281 PS) and 264 lb-ft (359 Nm) of torque, sending power to all four wheels via a 6-speed automatic and Toyota’s 4WD system. Finally, the tuner offers the option of lift kits, enhancing the Tacoma’s off-road credentials.
According to Flex Automotive which has a dealership in San Diego, California, the Renoca Windansea was created exclusively for the US market. Pricing starts from $52,800, including the cost of a used donor vehicle. For similar money, you could probably get a high-spec example of the brand-new fourth-gen Tacoma, although the Windansea bets on its uniqueness and nostalgic character.
