Volkswagen has released the first official teasers for the ID.7 Tourer, the estate variant of the ffully electric ID.7, and has announced its European launch in 2024. Notably, the EV adopts the “Tourer” nameplate instead of the “Variant” typically used for the company’s ICE-powered wagons.

Although the official photos show the model in an autumn-themed livery with integrated QR codes, our spy photographers have captured an uncovered prototype of the VW ID.7 Tourerr. This production version of the 2019 VW ID. Space Vizzion concept shares the front portion of the bodywork with the ID.7 hatchback but features a redesigned roof, tail, and greenhouse.

According to Volkswagen, the ID.7 Tourer boasts impressive aerodynamics, with a drag coefficient of 0.24 Cd, which is incrementally worse than the 0.23 Cd of the standard ID.7. This means that the driving range figures will be largely carried over from its sleeker MEB-based counterpart despite having a larger boot. Chances are that the ID.7 Tourer will inherit the 77 kWh and 85 kWh battery packs of the ID.7 offering close to 700 km (435 miles) of range between charges.

Volkswagen says that the VW ID.7 Tourer offers a boot volume of up to 545 liters (19.2 cubic feet) in a five-seater configuration when loaded up to the height of the rear seat backrests. This represents a slight increase of just 13 liters (0.46 cubic feet) compared to the ID.7 hatchback, but the added height of the Tourer contributes to its enhanced practicality.

The maximum load volume with the rear seats folded is 1,714 lt (60.5 cubic feet), creating a loading area that is nearly 2 m (79.7 inches) long. For comparison, the MQB-based 2024 VW Passat Variant which is the ICE-powered equivalent in the automaker’s range offers up to 1,920 lt (67.8 cubic feet) of cargo space.

VW will reveal the final design of the ID.7 Tourer in the coming months, before its market launch in Europe which is scheduled for 2024. Production will take place at the Emden plant in Germany, alongside the ID.7.
