Freeways are crazily changeable environments. One minute you and the 30 cars around you are happily cruising along in harmony, and the next minute all hell has broken loose and your Kia Soul has been flipped into the air by a runaway tire, or you’re standing in the median looking at the mess another driver has made of your vehicle.
That’s what happened to the driver of the white Jeep Grand Cherokee in this video, who was minding her own business when a Chevy SUV in the next lane went rogue, mashing both of them into the concrete central divider on the 405 in the San Fernando Valley, California.
The clip opens with what looks like a Chevy Tahoe driving fairly normally, although its driver’s side wheels are slightly across the double yellow lines. But then the Chevy moves across to the lane to its right and although the maneuver is nowhere near sharp enough to upset the handling, the Tahoe starts to wobble a little, and then a lot, before swaying wildly and ultimately spinning through 90 degrees.

At that point it’s just a matter of how many other vehicles the Tahoe takes out as is moves through four lanes en route to the concrete divider. Fortunately it only seems to make contact with one vehicle, but unfortunately for the Jeep driver, she’s the unlucky victim. Incredibly, the whole incident wasn’t only captured on video, but witnessed by a cop following the now-wrecked Grand Cherokee in his own white Chevy SUV.
That coincidence resulted in the clip finding its way onto the r/ConvenientCop subreddit, where commenters have variously suggested that the Tahoe’s wayward behavior was the result of a mechanical problem, a blowout, a bad reaction from the driver in response to realizing they were too close to other vehicles, or maybe even a fight inside the Tahoe’s cabin that caused the driver to lose control. What do you think was to blame?
