A few hours after unveiling the Tributo Italiano special series for the Tonale, Giulia, and Stelvio, Alfa Romeo published a mysterious teaser on its official Facebook page. The dark photo depicts the LED taillights of the Tonale C-SUV under the “A New Era Begins” title.
The Italian brand didn’t provide any other information on its social media channels, other than the: “Stay tuned… A new era begins with Alfa Romeo” description, so we can only speculate based on what we have. This “new era” could be interpreted as a hint for Alfa Romeo’s first EV which has been confirmed for 2024. However, the taillights on the teaser clearly belong to the Tonale C-SUV rather than the smaller and yet-unnamed B-SUV which is coming soon with electric and hybrid options.

Does this mean that Alfa Romeo is teasing a new version of the Tonale? As a refresher, the compact SUV which is based on the old FCA Small Wide platform instead of the newer STLA Medium, is currently available with diesel, petrol, mild-hybrid, and plug-in hybrid powertrain options.
A fully electric Tonale was deemed “technically possible” by Alfa Romeo’s Head of Products, Daniel Tiago Guzzafame, although he made it clear that such a derivative had not been decided yet when he made the statement in February 2022. At around the same time, Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato confirmed that they were already working on a Quadrifoglio version of the Tonale but added they wouldn’t approve it for production unless they got “the highest level of performance”.
Alfa Romeo has pledged to become an EV-only brand by 2027, when the current Giulia and Stelvio will be discontinued alongside the ICE-powered versions of the Tonale. Is this the new era that the teaser is talking about? Only time will tell.
