After a twelve-year stint in the market, the Lancia Ypsilon is in dire need of a redesign, and that much-anticipated transformation is set to grace us in February 2024. The new iteration of this premium-ish subcompact (referred to as a supermini in Europe) will make its grand entrance with the EV-only Edizione Limitata Cassina, which has been showcased in the initial official teaser.

Although the special launch edition remains concealed for now, Lancia has released several images of a covered full-size model, unveiling the Ypsilon’s silhouette and the distinct contour of the hood, where we anticipate the new lighting signature will be positioned.

On the other hand, the short video is focused on the “tavolino”, which is what Lancia calls the circular-shaped element between the front seats. In the Edizione Limitata Cassina, the structure that looks like a coffee table is upholstered in a leather-like material, surrounded by an aluminum-style trim. Lancia says that the tavolino “strongly recalls the home feeling concept that has always been central to the brand”.

The special edition was developed in collaboration with Cassina, an Italian company that specializes in high-end furniture and has already worked with Lancia in the Pu+Ra HPE concept. The Ypsilon Edizione Limitata Cassina will be limited to 1,906 numbered examples, paying respects to Lancia’s founding date in the wake of its 117th anniversary.

The Lancia Ypsilon will ride on Stellantis underpinnings, as with numerous superminis and B-SUVs from other brands of the group. While the “Cassina” special will be exclusively offered in EV form, the Ypsilon will also be offered with mild-hybrid powertrains. This means that the model will fulfill two roles, being Lancia’s first EV, and the last ICE-powered offering before the Italian brand goes EV-only in 2028.

While the official debut in February 2024 sounds far away, Lancia will keep us busy by “unveiling a series of further details” for the Ypsilon over the coming weeks.

The Lancia Ypsilon will likely be the most important model in the company’s 10-year Renaissance strategic plan. Starting in summer 2024, the all-new third generation will be available all around Europe becoming the start of Lancia’s forthcoming expansion. The supermini will reportedly be produced in Zaragoza, Spain, next to the Opel Corsa. Lancia’s single-model range will grow with the Gamma electric crossover flagship in 2026, followed by the Delta electric hatchback in 2028.
